My background and experience:
Over my twenty plus years as a therapist, I have worked in a variety of settings, helping people with many different types of difficulties.
Anxiety has been a common thread running through the types of problems I have helped people with.
In addition to providing direct counseling, I have worked in middle management, and as a clinical supervisor of therapist interns in training.
I worked for seven years as a social worker with disabled children and adults, and their families.
In my private practice, I have chosen to focus on helping anxious young men and women overcome panic attacks and anxiety, toward becoming more calm and confident in pursuing their goals.
Personally:
When I was a younger adult, suffering from panic attacks and anxiety, a wise old therapist helped me find myself and find my way in the world. This is the gift I enjoy passing on to the new generation in my own "older years."
In my personal life, I "practice what I preach" toward a calmer life for my clients.
I encourage clients to work with their anxious thoughts to switch their perspective. I do this regularly myself, if I find myself getting worked up over something.
I also encourage clients to take up some kind of a regular relaxation/stress reducing practice. For me, that takes the form of a regular Tai chi practice and a daily mindful walk, over the past couple of decades.
Education and Licensure:
In 1985, after having completed my Master's Degree in Psychology and a 3,000 hour internship in working as a therapist, I completed the California State Licensing Exam and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Lic.#LMFT 20851.
Over the past decade, I have focused more on specializing in helping people with anxiety disorders. I have taken ongoing continuing education courses on treatment strategies for anxiety. I participated for four years in a consultation group for therapists who specialize in anxiety treatment. I am committed to ongoing, life long training, in keeping up with the most effective strategies for anxiety treatment.
